Good to be Home
So much snow at home but we don’t care just now. So much fun to let the new wolves out and see them run around in the fresh snow and reconnect with each other. This moment has been a long time coming but we did it, we made a fantastic film and brought the wolves home.

Homeward Bound
Finally the time has come to go home for good. In a few hours all the wolves will be loaded in the aircraft and we will begin the journey home. Still a long way to go but the end is in sight!

Great Wall Visit
We could not resist taking the time to visit the Great Wall of China today. An amazing feat of engineering and a true wonder of the world. This was our last day in China and the place we called home for so long.

Last Day On Film
Today was the last day of filming with the wolves. We worked all day and into the night to get the final shots we needed to complete the film. From concentrated looks to aggressive snarling the wolves were in their groove. Now its time for a wrap party!!!

Snow Delivered by Truck!
Almost 6 weeks have passed since the crew left but today they have returned. We still have no snow to finish the shooting so they will bring 17 semi-trucks full of snow from over 1,000 km away.

Still Waiting
It’s been almost a month since the production shut down to wait for the snow to arrive. Talking to the locals this is the strangest year they can remember for snowfall; normally there should be around two feet of snow everywhere! At this moment all we can do is hope to get back home for Christmas.
Nov 9/2013
So Cold
We are now the only ones sitting here with the wolves as all the other crew have left for Beijing during the break. The temperature here is around -25C but still no sign of any snow coming anytime soon.
Nov 1/2013
Oh No... No Snow!
Warmer weather has melted all the snow here in Inner Mongolia! We only have 8 days of filming left but we need snow to finish. Production has decided to shut down for a month to wait for the snow to return. So close to the finish line and then so far away for us again.
Oct 24/2013
Finally Snow!
The gods are with us today and they delivered snow. It’s been a long wait for the snow to come so we could finish the gazelle hunting sequence with the wolves. A very long day but lots of amazing wolf footage captured on multiple cameras including a drone in the air. Can’t wait to see the end result in the final film edit.
Oct 14/2013
Howling on Blue
Another ‘blue screen’ day for us with Silver playing the hero wolf. Five cameras covering every angle as Silver howled her heart out for all to see. Not as easy as it sounds to have a wolf howl on cue but Silver delivered the moments needed to wrap up this shooting day early!
Oct 9/2013
Defend The Sheep
This was our 4th night in a row filming with dogs, wolves and sheep. It’s been extremely cold and very windy for the trainers and animals outside all night. But now we have finished all of the ‘wolf tail’ sequence which looks great.

C-Saw’s Final Moment
Today was C-Saws last day at work for this project. High up on the mountain top he performed at his best as we shot the final scene in the film. Although extremely cold the little guy looked good and I’m sure the audience will cry when they see him.

Countdown Begins!
Back in Ulagai for the final filming block. It’s hard to believe it’s been over 3 years since this project began for me and I started my journey with the wolves. We only have 4 weeks to go till the end, fingers crossed the snow comes and we can leave on time.
Sept 28/2013
Last day in the Volcano!
Another location finished for the wolves. Each time they just get better and better and really enjoy the challenge of working for the camera. This was such a different location to the normal grassland we have seen so far, can’t wait to see how it looks on the big screen.
Sept 24.2013
Run Free Wolf
The wolves had a blast today in the largest area they have ever been in. This was a nervous day for us letting them out in such a big area but they once again did an amazing job and made us all proud.
Sept 20/2013
Amazing Location
Today we saw the new filming location which is huge! It will be the biggest area we have ever fenced for the wolves to film in. I hope the pictures we took can show the massive size of this volcanic site in all its glory!
Sept 17/2013
Road Trip
Tomorrow it’s time for another road trip! All the wolves and gear should be packed in the trucks by 7am, it’s now an 8 hour journey to the new location but its fun to travel to different parts of this amazing country.
Sept 14/2013
Wolves and Jeeps and Guns!
The wolves had to battle with jeeps and guns all week but we all made it through in one piece. Now we can relax a little with this sequence over and start to get ready to move seven hours to another new location for two weeks before coming back for the last few weeks in Ulagai.
Sept 7/2013
Going Good So Far
Another big week for the wolves with three locations wrapped out. The swamp, the cliff and the tall grass are all behind us now. One more week of filming to complete this sequence which should look great on screen.
Aug 31/2013
Getting Ready for the Hunt
The next 2 weeks are going to be very busy for the wolves. Five different locations on the grassland to film the final hunt sequence in the film. For us it’s going to be long days fencing and late nights home.
Aug 23/2013
C-Saw Attacks Actor!
Huge day on the film set today with little wolf C-Saw doing his big attack scene with Feng Shaofeng. Once more we were all so proud of him as he ignored all the cameras and just did his job.

Final Block Begins
It’s back to work again today, the crew break is over and now it’s time to begin the final filming block. First up is little wolf C-Saw with a very busy few days with main actor Feng Shaofeng.

All Grown Up
It’s amazing how much these little wolf pups have grown since I have been gone! It’s hard to recognize them and tell them apart. Now it’s time for some serious training to turn the little guys into big wolves for the silver screen.
July 13/2013
Home Visit
Things have slowed down a little for the wolves while the main crew focuses on catching up on some acting by the human actors. For me it’s time for a long overdue visit to my Canadian home.
July 6/2013
Tough Week Over
This has been a really tough week of filming for us. Awake at 3.30am and in bed at 11.30pm. The sheep pen attack sequence is finally finished with lots of great wolf action on film. Thanks again to my crew for pulling this off.
June 24/2013
Back To Work Again
Now the wolf pups have grown up a little it’s time to get back to work filming. This week we are filming with wolf pups, dogs, adult wolves, horses and cattle pulling wagons. Lots of things to keep an eye on in Mongolia it seems.
June 10/2013
Mosquitoes Are Here
After several days of record rainfall and thunderstorms the sun is out. But now we have millions of mosquitos everywhere around the wolf base and on set. Canadian deet is our new friend now; we love ‘Woods Off’ !!!!

A Welcome Break
Filming is finished for a few weeks to allow the pups to grow a little. It’s a welcome rest for all the wolf crew after working long days and long nights raising the little guys!
May 18/2013
Silver Streak!
Had a great day on set with our lead female wolf Silver. Her sequence with the lamb was extremely difficult to train and harder to shoot but she did it. Very proud of her once again.
May 14/2013
Amazing Wolves!
Another fantastic day working wolves for the sheep pen sequence. I have never seen anything to match the performance the wolves gave us today. We were all blown away by the action captured by the camera. Can’t wait to see it on the big screen!
May 8/2013
Puppy Time Again
It’s that time of the year again when little wolf pups take control of our lives. Many sleepless nights but lots of fun moments for us.
May 4/2013
It’s Time For Action
It’s the first day of filming the new block today. Five weeks of nothing but wolves, wolves and more wolves. Looking forward to just getting into filming after all this time waiting.
April 10/2013
Delayed By The Weather
A recent unexpected snow storm in Mongolia has delayed our trip with the wolves. Filming has been pushed back another week so it looks like we get to enjoy the sunshine in Beijing a little longer!
March 30/2013
Heading to Mongolia
Winter is finally over in Beijing so its time to head to Mongolia again. Filming starts in under 4 weeks so its another long road trip for us and the wolves. I hope the Mongolian snow has melted by the time we arrive.
Dec. 23/2012
Growing Up Fast
It’s amazing just how fast these wolf pups are growing. Little Mickey is only eight months old but he’s just about the biggest wolf we have here in Beijing. Must try and weight him before Christmas.
Nov. 15/2012
Heading Back to Beijing
After nine weeks in Mongolia it’s time to head back to Beijing for a break. Although this was an extremely hard sequence to film the wolves did an amazing job, I could not be prouder of them.
Nov. 2/2012
Finally the snow arrived
So happy to wake up this morning to lots of fresh snow! We had been waiting on this fresh clean snow for a long time. The wolves looked great working with the horses today.
Oct. 24/2012
More night shooting
Another night of filming over, it’s hard to get used to staying up until 3am in the morning. Especially when it’s so cold and the wind never seems to stop blowing. Looking forward to the long summer nights.
